Apollo's story
Approximate Age:  ~2 years
Meet Apollo!
Are you looking for a smart, affectionate, and well-trained companion? Then look no further than Apollo! Just take one look at his unique widow's peak, his long skinny black tail, and his beautiful brown and black coat and you'll fall in love with his cuteness. Then as you get to know his personality, you'll also fall in love with his playfulness, as well as how sweet and affectionate he is. Apollo is around three years old. We believe his is a shepherd or retriever mix, and whatever it is, it makes one great dog. He is full of energy and loves to play but will also snuggle up with you and watch a movie.
One of Apollo's favorite games (that he never gets tired of) is retrieving. He gets along with our two dogs and cat and would have no problem living in a house with other animals. He likes to play outside but prefers to be indoors. A house with a fenced in yard would be ideal so he can retrieve and run free. He would be happy with anyone that can offer him love and can throw a ball. If you have kids, a family with older kids would be preferable.
While Apollo is extremely well trainedhe's house-broken, sits, stays, offers a paw, and is crate trainedhe can be fearful in new situations, and he will always need slow introductions with new people and places (such as the vet's office). Fortunately, he is a rockstar with muzzle training, so he can be safely introduced in those situations.
When Apollo first came to our house we believe he was so stressed from his long drive up from Texas. To deal with his stress he guarded some of the toys we gave him and would not give them up. We have been working with him by giving him treats and then taking away his toy. Now he will drop the toy on command, but it is something his new owner should continue to work with him on to make sure he keeps up the great work. He also gets really excited about soft toys and will tear them apart and remove the squeaker within minutes, so tougher toys like KONGs will be better for him. He has never attempted to take anything from our house that was not given to him such as shoes, pillows, etc.. Did I mention he's an incredibly smart dog?! Apollo would make an excellent addition to any family; he is a special dog and deserves a special forever home. Apply to meet him today!
